Supporter/Internship for social and cultural projects.

Language: English
Age: 18 +

Work and activities: The E&C NGO is a Vietnamese non-governmental organization, and a partner of The Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Association (VUSTA). It has developed projects offering improved education for poor children in the Highlands; vocational education for the disabled; traditional playgrounds for poor children; an educational program for disadvantaged youth and teaching English to children through active learning. It has also managed to establish many professional partnerships that support and promote its program activities. E & C focuses on the following areas: education and culture, community projects and disadvantaged communities.

Volunteers working on this project will teach English to the staff of the centre as well as to children, university students and disabled children. Furthermore they will take part in several projects concerning cultural activities and education and help the centre with their office work. For example, volunteers will establish partnerships with other NGOs or help raising funds. In special cases volunteers can plan and set up their own project. The range of possible tasks is wide and depends on the knowledge and skills of the volunteers.

Objectives: SJ Vietnam hopes to recruit talented volunteers to support these development programs, which aim to benefit both the development of society in general as well as the development of the disadvantaged communities on which its projects are focused.

Accommodation & Food: Simple and small accommodation in SJ Vietnam's LTV House. Volunteers will stay in dormitory beds. It is supposed to have from 5 to 6 volunteers sharing a bedroom and up to 18 volunteers sharing 2 bathrooms/showers. Volunteers need to take their sleeping bag, mosquito net, pillow and sheet with them. Volunteers are responsible for their food: they can cook by themselves in the kitchen of the LTV House or go and eat outside. Vegetarian catering is possible.

Leisure activities: Hanoi has many historical and cultural landmarks and is a popular destination for tourists. Visiting the Old Quarter or traditional trade villages are good choices for volunteers at weekends or during their free-time. Many cultural festivals are held in Hanoi annually so this is a great chance for volunteers to explore the Capital which is 1000 years old.

Location: Hanoi, Vietnam

Remarks: The volunteers should be enthusiastic, flexible, patient, creative, open to exploring Vietnamese culture, able to take initiative and to work independently. They need to have experience in teaching or social/related fields and they need to be fluent in English with good pronunciation.
